Armed Forces Day Saturday 28th June 2025
Barrack Field, Woolwich SE18
Lt Col Mark Powell -
‘The Armed Forces Day held in Woolwich at the end of June 2025 was a wonderful opportunity for the Armed Forces to display and show-case the benefits that a career in the Armed Forces can offer.
The three services provided in excess of twenty-five public information stands representing all 3 elements of the Armed Forces and cadets. On display was an array of military vehicles, weapons and equipment which proved particularly attractive to the public and was enjoyed by all.
This year it was particularly pleasing to have a large veterans contingent on parade with their branch standards. It is always right and proper to celebrate the contribution that veterans have made in service to their country.
The event was attended by thousands of people and was considered a tremendous success’.
Tim Barnes, Chairman of Woolwich Garrison Church Trust -
This year over 11,000 people visited AFD on Barrack Field.
We were blessed by a lovely summer day with events continuing from 10am until 8pm. The opening of the proceedings involved speeches from our MP Matthew Pennycook and the Mayor of Greenwich ( Cllr Linda Bird) as well as from the Master Gunner, Lt General Sir Andrew Gregory.
The audience was largely made up of families. The military equipment was a great attraction but so too were the fairground rides and the football competition, organised by Charlton Athletic .
Among adults the expanded Classic Car Parade involving over 80 vehicles was very popular as was the Gymanstic Display in the Arena, and the large offering of specialist food and drink stalls.
This year we organised a special space for Veterans in the Garrison Church opposite Barrack Field. They had their own entertainment including Company 3 ( a well loved local trio) singing songs that the veterans would remember from the thirties and the time of World War 2.
Everyone enjoyed the performances on the Main Stage and in the Arena
AFD 2025 was a very successful and much enjoyed event. It was the largest Armed Forces Day event in London, We are planning to bring the event back in 2026
