Christmas Carol Concert 2024

Sunday 15th December

Our Christmas Carol Concert on the afternoon of Sunday 15th December was a great success. This was largely due to 2 contributors. Firstly the RAF Cadets band surpassed themselves; the drummers played with immaculate precision, supported by trumpeters , xylophones and cymbalists. They are a highly professional Band, and their mix of When the Saints, Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines and Jingle Bells, was the ideal combination.

The Garrison Church very much value the support of the Air Cadets and their Squadron Leader Mark Bird.

The second contributors were the Belles, an enlarged 6-strong women’s harmony group with its nucleus formed from our good friends in Company 3. Looking very stylish in long black coats and red scarves, they led the congregation in the carols, sang some carols with their own adaptation of well- known tunes such as Silent Night and Carol of the Bells and serenaded the congregation at the end of the Service including a lovely rendition of The Fairytale of New York.

The Service followed the traditional format of 9 Lessons and Carols. The new CO Woolwich Station, Lt Col Veronica Sefton and the Mayor of Greenwich ( Cllr Jit Ranabhat) were among the readers. Mulled wine and mince pies were served after the event which was much enjoyed by the congregation.
