Bombed during World War II, St George’s Garrison Church survives as an evocative ruin with recently conserved mosaics, and a modern canopy roof, for all to enjoy.

WORLD FOOD & MUSIC SUNDAY 20th JUNE 12.00 -16.00

On Sunday 20th June at our World Food and Music event four different bands played sounds from the Caribbean, Nepal, Africa the Middle East and Europe while tastebuds were treated with food and drink,. The relaxed setting of St George's was perfect for children to play and picnics to be enjoyed. Even the sun came out!

Special thanks to the bands and to Sujan & Bandana Katuwal of the celebrated PANAS restaurant in Lewisham.

Artists appearing included

Noga Ritter a London-based singer-songwriter and workshop leader. Her music blends African and Middle Eastern sounds with jazzy and soulful arrangements. For the occasion, she was joined on stage by an international line up of musicians - drummer Giuliano Osella on percussions, keyboard player Tomer Eldor, and bassist Basile Petite.

AND

Lèa Mondo, also known as SunFollower, a singer-songwriter and guitar player of Congolese descent who participates in jamming culture and gigs all over London. Her sound is a soulful and rhythmic blend of African influences, which draws inspiration from Bob Marley, Franco Luambo and Malian artists such as Oumour Sangare and Fatoumata Diawara, together with her band.

St George's Garrison Church in Woolwich, with its modern canopy roof and stunning mosaics, is both an evocative ruin and a contemporary space. Designed by Thomas H Wyatt in an Italian-Romanesque style, the Church was built between 1862-63 to serve the Royal Artillery in Woolwich. Today it is run by a local group, the Woolwich Garrison Church Trust who are committed to making it available for all to visit and enjoy. Directly opposite the Barracks in Woolwich, South East London, come and enjoy its beauty and peaceful garden.
