Event Highlight! Theatre night, Sense & Sensibility

Tuesday 27th June, gates open 7.00pm

The evening of Tuesday 27th June was a magical one at the Church. Heartbreak Productions performed an adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility before a gratifyingly large audience.

Elinor and Marianne Dashwood were played by two actresses with great verve, clear diction and beautiful singing voices. The two male actors were required (often at breakneck speed) to change costumes and characters; one playing Edward Ferrers, Sir John Dashwood and Lucy Steele and the other acting the parts of Willoughby, Col Brandon and a wonderfully waspish and snobbish Fanny.

The entire troupe managed to involve the audience in the rudiments of Regency dancing, and joining in some of the songs. The quartet were splendid in their humour and enthusiasm and enjoyed performing at the Church. The Director, who was present, had adapted the novel and created a narrative that kept the essentials of the story while dispensing with many characters. The setting was used to great effect.

As the evening deepened and the lighting came into its own, every member of the audience will remember this performance for a very long time. Many thanks to Heartbreak Productions. We look forward to seeing you again in 2024.
