Event Highlight! Interfaith Ceremony, 23rd July @ 2.30pm
There was an impressive range of differing faiths represented at our Annual Interfaith Ceremony at the Church on the afternoon of 23rd July. Representatives of the Bahai, Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu and Jewish religions spoke about various aspects of their beliefs. Father Kevin from Our Ladye Star of the Sea Church in West Greenwich and Revd Adam Scott the Honorary Chaplain for the Royal Artillery, provided the Christian Focus for the Service. The Metropolitan Police Borough Commander for South East London (Mr Lawry), read the parable of the Good Samaritan and commented on its application in the context of the current search for a missing child in which so many local people had participated. (The search was successfully concluded in the course of our Service.)
Revd Cantor Rome, one of the WGCT Trustees, performed two Jewish songs accompanied by a keyboard player from St Luke’s Charlton, and the involvement of the Trust was further reflected in Tim's Welcome comments and Ruth’s reading of Psalm 19. The weather was thankfully kind as the sun made a welcome appearance.
A wide selection of cup cakes and biscuits were served afterwards which were happily devoured and gave the opportunity for guests to mingle and chat. In a Borough in which so many different faiths are represented it was good for us to meet together and show mutual respect for our differing religions while emphasising the much more profound beliefs which unite us.
